OBIA/OBIEE Developer (Atlanta or Birmingham)



The OBIA/OBIEE Developer position will be responsible for the, development, testing, optimization, and maintenance of Southern Company’s Oracle business intelligence solutions (OBIA, OBIEE, OAC). This includes the analysis, maintenance, development, and deployment of business intelligence data models, dashboards, reports, and subject areas. This position will also create test data and execute unit and system testing. The individual will also monitor the availability of the application and troubleshoot system issues including monitoring ODI load plans and researching errors. Additional activities include the delivery of BI functionality in conjunction with approved project efforts, ad-hoc querying, and decision support against the data warehouse. It is also expected that new software technologies are learned especially those that are consistent with our support requirements. This position leverages strong partnerships with the Technology Organization’s business partners, the internal business support groups, the Project Management Office, Oracle Corporation, and other technical and consulting resources across the Technology Organization to ensure the delivery of timely and quality solutions and support.

The OBIA/OBIEE developer will also be responsible for providing timely production and end-user support for our business intelligence solutions both during and after business hours. This includes assisting in the monitoring of production applications and databases with the overall goal of resolving performance issues along with identifying potential future problems before they become critical. This position will also be responsible for creating technical programming specifications from business documents, creating internal program documentation, and participating in peer reviews as both a reviewer and as one being reviewed. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to cross-train other members of the team so that all are able to support our business intelligence solutions. This will include creating comprehensive documents that all members of the team may understand and execute.

This position will also be required to provide time/effort estimates, contribute to project planning, provide task and project status to end users, peers and management. The OBIA/OBIEE developer will be asked to communicate issues and issue resolution to management and business partners in a clear, concise manner while managing multiple priorities.

As our analytics footprint expands this position will be given the unique opportunity to help Southern Company grow in the analytics space utilizing technologies such as OAC – Oracle Analytics Cloud, to empower our business with modern AI-powered, self-service analytics capabilities. As a result, this position will also be responsible for OAC configuration, implementation and ongoing support.

Education & Experience:

  • B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics or related field

  • Background in Oracle 11g or 12c database, Windows and Unix/Linux operating systems is required.

  • Possess 5-7 years of business intelligence and data warehouse experience.

  • Understanding of best practice related to business intelligence and data warehousing is required.

  • 3 years of experience with Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE 12c) supporting development, configuration, administration and performance improvement, is required.

  • 2 years of experience with Oracle Business Intelligence Applications (OBIA 11g) and Oracle Transactional Business Intelligence (OTBI). Specific experience with Oracle ERP, Project, Oracle HCM Cloud and Supply Chain Analytics is desired.

  • Experience with Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) 11g & 12c within the context of OBIA.

  • Experience configuring and implementing OBIA. Specific experience with Oracle ERP, and Oracle HCM.

  • Experience with high volume, complex relational databases.

  • Experience in troubleshooting application availability issue; monitoring system performance and error logs, and in proposing solutions to potential risks.

  • Strong understanding of database concepts including views, tables and indexing

  • Possess complete understanding of the OBIEE environment, from dimensional modeling to front-end report/dashboard design.

  • Possess a strong understanding of OBIA including physical data models, ETL, logical business models and subject areas.

  • Possess strong systems/process orientation with demonstrated analytical thinking, organization skills and problem-solving skills.

  • Possess an understanding of OAC provisioning, configuration and full life cycle implementation

  • Experience with development utilities such as SQL query tools and processes to support, test and verify tasks.

  • Experience automating BI and ODI object migrations from source to target environment.

  • The following job requirements are a plus –

  • Experience with provisioning and configuration of Oracle Analytics Cloud (OAC)

  • Possess a strong understanding of the OBIA and OAC architecture

  • Experience with ERWIN data modeling

  • Experience using Data Sync to extract data from SaaS

  • Experience with PaaS/SaaS integration to meet OAC requirements

Candidate must be available weekends and after normal business hours for on-call support. Some travel may be required within the Southern Company footprint.
