Excellent opportunity for an HR professional with strong HR generalist and consultative experience to join Southern Company, one of the largest and most respected utilities in the Nation. We are actively seeking an individual who is looking for opportunities to be a strategic business partner with our plant management team. This position will support Alabama Power’s Plant Greene County near Demopolis AL, Alabama Power’s Hydro Plants across the state of Alabama and Alabama Power Forecast and Resource Planning.
As an integral part of the plant's leadership team, the HR Business Partner will support human resources initiatives and contribute to the plant achieving its business goals by delivering outstanding consultation and services. The successful candidate will not only have solid background as HR generalist, but also will have demonstrated capacities for consulting with managers, facilitating high-level discussions, and supporting human resources programs. Experience with performance management, leadership development, succession & development planning, organization effectiveness, and change management are vital to this position.
Summary of Position Duties:
The Human Resources Business Partner is responsible for providing HR solutions/services to Alabama Power’s Plant Greene County, Hydro Plants, Forecast and Resource Planning. This HR professional will be a business partner with the plant leadership team, support HR strategic initiatives and contribute to the plants business goal achievement. Some overnight travel is required. This position will be filled based on the knowledge, skills, and experience of the successful candidate. There are no direct reports for this position.
This position could also support additional customer groups as business needs dictate.
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field preferred
Advanced degree and/or SPHR/PHR certification desirable
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in HR generalist functions working with a broad range of employees (union / non-union, exempt / non-exempt) preferred
Consulting experience in performance management, leadership development, succession and development planning, compensation, employee relations, workforce planning & strategic staffing, project management, organizational effectiveness principles, metrics and organizational change
Experience in a direct HR consulting role with internal customers is highly desired
Experience in a plant/manufacturing environment highly desired
Prior experience with staffing challenges and organizational structure changes highly desired
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Demonstrated technical knowledge of Human Resources is required (Employee Relations, Compensation, Disability Management, Labor Relations, Talent Acquisition, Performance Management, Organizational Design, and Compliance.)
Must possess comprehensive knowledge of HR policies and practices and understand their application in solving client needs
Ability to diplomatically offer objective and creative solutions to client issues
Ability to respect and maintain confidential and sensitive information
Ability to champion and influence change and a willingness to take risk
Ability to build effective relationships with plant employees as well as leadership by adapting approach/style
