Contracts Analyst

Job Summary

This position plays a critical role in the growth and project support at Southern Power Company. It is responsible for supporting processes and procedures associated with asset acquisitions, development projects, and existing assets, including initial evaluation, engineering and construction, and commercial operation phases. Responsibilities will include working with cross-functional teams to identify, track, validate/interpret, and manage contract obligations of material contracts associated with a project to mitigate risk and enhance contract compliance.

Job Requirements

  • Responsible for managing compliance with policies and procedures throughout the project lifecycle

  • Identify and analyze legal obligations in material contracts and agreements per project and build obligation matrices for each material contract per project

  • Perform contract validation with document owners through independent reviews and reconciliation of obligations

  • Manage inputs, administration, and monitoring of obligations in the Monday.com software suite

  • Provide risk management and reporting of obligations under project contracts

  • Monitor compliance with process and procedures and perform self-assessments to ensure the organization complies with new contract governance program and can demonstrate ‘evidence of compliance’ of obligations

  • Conduct periodic reviews of program elements for effectiveness and improvements

  • Assist in the preparation and reporting for Project Risk Management Governance Committee meetings

  • Assist with organizing, storing and maintaining project contracts in SharePoint

  • Provide training on overall process, use of technology, policies and procedures to functional groups and governance committee

  • Participate in the ongoing development of the contract governance program to ensure contract transition processes fully mitigates risks through clarity, accountability, and Governance

  • Serve as source of expertise in contracts areas to address questions from functional teams

  • Developing and delivering written and oral presentations to internal stakeholders and management.

Educational/Certification Requirement:

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • JD/ paralegal experience preferred

  • Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional (CCEP) preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Contract Experience: Familiarity with various types of transactional documents required (e.g., Purchase and Sale Agreement, LLC Operating Agreement, Power Purchase Agreement, Engineering, Procurement and Construction Agreement)

  • Ability to analyze legal contract terms and identify risks

  • Experience in implementation of legal requirements desired

  • Highly skilled at managing multiple assignments with minimal direction in time-sensitive environment

  • Independent and self-motivated

  • Manages time effectively

  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team/project management skillset

  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with peers, management, executives, legal, counterparts within Southern Company

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including influencing skills

  • Ability to train others on processes

  • Experience interfacing with/knowledge of the corporate compliance structure

  • Handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately

  • Strong computer skills; particularly Word and Excel

  • Familiarity with SharePoint and Monday.com desired

  • Prepare management reports and dashboards using Monday.com and Excel
