Workforce Development Manager


Job Summary

Develop workforce development strategies to build future pipelines for energy and key industries in Georgia. Provide leadership and management to leverage our resources, knowledge and expertise to support and partner with education and workforce development systems in the implementation of those strategies. For energy, utilize workforce data at the company and state level to validate external business drivers and internal needs to direct current and future pipeline programs. For industry, guide partnerships with education and workforce development organizations, associations and governmental agencies to maximize available funding and educational capacity associated with labor pool development. Set and establish clear expectations and measures of success for activities in the areas of workforce, education, energy industry partnerships and economic development to support strategy implementation. Build and maintain key internal relationships including Human Resources, System-wide Workforce Development Organizations, Community and Economic Development, and Utility Relations. Build and maintain key external relationships including Department of Education, Technical College System of Georgia, state and national utility partners, and key associations.

Job Experience and Education

  • 4-year degree in business, education, communications, marketing or related field preferred

  • Experience working with education and workforce development leaders, systems, or organizations Pre-K - 20

  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously involving internal and external stakeholders

  • Experience managing budgets

  • Demonstrated ability to lead a diverse work team, function well as a working manager of managers.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent communication skills, oral and written, including ability to convey information in a manner that is compelling and convincing to individuals at all levels inside and outside the company

  • Experience developing and delivering professional presentations to groups at all levels

  • Knowledge of talent acquisition or sourcing process

  • Knowledge of local and state education and workforce systems and resources including public, private, and non-profit

  • Organizational, analytical and strategic thinking skills

  • Ability to build influential relationships to motivate and influence without positional leadership

  • Ability to work well in cross-functional teams

  • Ability to work independently and be self-directed

Job Responsibilities

  • Maintain and grow effective relationships with current and new partners in education and workforce development.

  • Utilize partnerships to strengthen energy and key industry workforce development efforts and represent Georgia Power on local, state, and national committees such as Department of Education, Technical College System of Georgia, Georgia Career Technical Agricultural Education, Georgia School Counselors Association, FIRST Robotics, Skills USA, Construction Education Foundation of Georgia, etc.

  • Lead the development of the proprietary, custom measurement tool designed to apply analytics to subjective work, increase speed of investment reviews, automate measurement of ROI and provide holistic data to improve decision making.

  • Lead collaborative efforts with key stakeholders to develop strategies, define new programs and initiatives, create and execute implementation plans, define long-term program ownership, and measure impact.

  • Actively participate in economic and workforce initiatives and organizations and serve as advisor to Community and Economic Development and other internal partners to further economic efforts for state and company.

  • Partner with Georgia Power Business Units and Southern Company subsidiaries to develop and share efficient workforce development programs and initiatives and ensure pipeline programs are meeting company needs.

  • Use multiple channels to effectively disseminate information to appropriate internal and external parties in timely manner fully leveraging branding opportunities.

  • Mange and lead diverse talent that can work with high levels of independence to identify, create, manage, implement, and measure the effectiveness of numerous strategies and programs that provide the highest ROI to our stakeholders.

  • Considered a thought leader and influencer among peers and within education and WFD systems, more than just a funder and volunteer

  • Serve as Georgia Power’s expert community and state liaison in education and workforce development, including the birth to work pipeline, in partnership with Education and Workforce Development Manager and team members

  • Play an active role on the Community and Economic Development Leadership Team.

Reporting Relationship: Reports to Education and Workforce Development Manager
