Description

This position is responsible for leading and coordinating a team of engineers in planning the bulk transmission system for Georgia Power Company and the Georgia Integrated Transmission System (ITS) participants. Plans must satisfy all user requirements, be coordinated with Operating Company budgeting and project development processes, and ensure compliance with applicable NERC and Southern Company transmission planning criteria. This position will also direct, perform or coordinate transmission studies related to generation plant siting, transmission service requests, operational studies, special studies, and RFP evaluations. The Project Manager will review study results and provide summary reports and presentations for all levels of Southern Company management review.

Job Requirements (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills)

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline required - Electrical preferred, but other areas may be acceptable with proper experience; Master’s Degree in an engineering discipline or in Business Administration is desirable.

  • Experience in planning, design, operations and maintenance of transmission systems with an emphasis on planning the Southern bulk electric system.

  • In depth knowledge of:transmission planning, transmission system power flow analysis, bulk power operations, transmission system design, power system protective schemes, principles of economic evaluations, regulatory requirements, and an understanding of capital and O&M budgets.

  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and written; market and sell the transmission recommendations to clients; create in-depth system solutions; analytical and problem-solving skills to examine a broad range of complex financial and engineering problems; be a leader in a dynamic planning team; develop effective client partnerships.

  • Proven leadership skills in past roles.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead/perform/coordinate transmission planning activities for the Georgia ITS joint planning process and regional planning processes (SERTP).

  • Provide work direction and performance management for professional employees. Evaluate team training needs to include the development and presentation of training programs.

  • Provide support for the Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) submitted to the Georgia PSC.

  • Continually review technical and industry literature to stay abreast of industry changes, technological advances and new areas of transmission planning business opportunity.

  • Review, organize and analyze all study input/output data to ensure product accuracy and provide specialized expertise in the areas of special studies, utilization of planningtools and creative solution development.

  • Continuously interface with client transmission personnel to understand their business, anticipate their needs and assess the quality and value of services provided.

  • Practice the Southern Style.
