The Training Manager interacts with the Field Operations, Customer Experience and/or Corporate organizations to manage, prioritize and execute training requests. This role is responsible for conducting needs analysis with the client, sourcing the appropriate training solutions and managing multiple training projects end-to-end. In addition, this role will work closely with business functions to translate standards, new technology and business process changes into the appropriate training methodology for the enterprise. This role is responsible for managing and leading internal training teams comprised of instructional designers, trainers and training support personnel to ensure training projects and deliverables are completed within established timeframes.

Job Responsibilities & Accountabilities by Competency


Functional Expertise :

  • Manages a team of training professionals that include instructional designers and trainers to develop and qualify our internal workforce.

  • Ensures consistency with the development and management of program materials, training delivery and communications in accordance with customer needs and company standards

  • Ensures compliance requirements are met.

  • Use of consistent tools and templates; strong project management skills

  • Identifies and/or validates training needs and provides consultation around best practice approach to buy versus build development and delivery method(s).

  • Leads training projects and programs for multiple businesses and sites from assessment through development, facilitation and evaluation.

Business Acumen:

  • Oversees the development and delivery of the training for safety and compliance, employee skill development, IT system applications, process initiatives and new hire on-boarding.

  • Knowledgeable of client’s employee base, business strategies, products and services, and processes.

  • Manages external vendors to deliver a quality product.

Engagement :

  • Builds strong relationships with business leaders and subject matter experts, to assess development needs and make recommendations to enhance organizational performance.

  • Manages scheduling, logistical needs and records management in partnership with Logistics Coordinator

  • Collaborates with the business to develop on-the-job (OJT) application and experiential learning.

  • Manages change with clients to ensure smooth implementation and adoption of new processes and systems

Driving Results:

  • Provides cost analysis to various solutions, ROI modeling, timeframes associated with various options, and quality measurements; makes final recommendations to training.

  • Solicits client feedback on training solutions to identify trends and performance gaps; develops and presents recommendations for closing gaps end to end.

  • Responsible for managing the full learning cycle of needs analysis, course and curriculum design, development, implementation and evaluation.


Education, Certifications/Licenses:


  • Bachelor’s degree in business, adult education, instructional design, project management or equivalent work experience.

Preferred :

  • Graduate degree in business or adult education.

Related Work Experience:

Required :

  • 6 years of extensive knowledge in Field Operations and other shared services providers of Southern Company Gas (Safety, Environmental, Construction, Resource Management, Engineering, Regulatory)

  • Work experience in the natural gas or utility industry

Preferred :

  • Experience in training with specific responsibilities in budgeting, needs analysis, content design/deliver and program effectiveness and evaluation

  • Experience as a project manager/lead
