IT Infrastructure Analyst, IOC Telecom Team
Purpose:
The Infrastructure Operations Center is responsible for 24x7x365 monitoring and problem resolution related to Southern Company’s Technology Organization Infrastructure. These infrastructure components include but are not limited to: network, telecommunications systems, mainframe systems and distributed computing systems.
Job Summary:
This is an infrastructure analyst position responsible for monitoring and managing exceptions within Southern Company’s telecommunications, routing, switching, wireless and voice infrastructure. This includes monitoring, diagnosis and resolution. This position is for a remote worker.
Job Requirements :
Fundamental knowledge of the functionality of infrastructure event management tools; in addition to the support tools and resources available to analysts for resolving problems.
Ability to interface and coordinate repair efforts with external telecommunications companies that are utilized as partners or service providers.
Responsible for working as a team with multiple Southern Company systems groups and the Technology Organization to ensure the overall integrity of telecommunications networks.
Provide centralized monitoring and first line problem diagnosis and resolution for Network/Transport/Wireless.
When responding to events, the Infrastructure Analyst must carefully track and document all issues and resolutions in detail as a permanent record.
Continuously identify process improvement opportunities with analyst tools, processes and documentation.
Detailed, in depth troubleshooting of events that involve the health and availability of:
network devices and LAN/WAN sites
EMS and DSCADA networks
LTE networks
digital transport equipment including fiber optic, microwave, and wireless systems
facility equipment including generators, battery arrays, heating and cooling equipment, tower lights and intrusion alarms
company owned and maintained transport sites
voice networks
firewalls
Competencies:
In-depth knowledge of telecommunications troubleshooting techniques and concepts
Practical experience concerning telecommunications ancillary equipment and respective alarm information
Working knowledge of Netcool
Working knowledge of:
SONET OC-12, OC-48, DWDM
Digital Microwave and Spread Spectrum Radio Systems
DSCADA and EMS RTU communications
In depth knowledge of TDM technologies including T-1, T-3
In depth knowledge of voice and data networks including Cisco routing, switching and VOIP
Working knowledge of channel banks, DS0 to DS3 cross connect switches (DACS)
Working knowledge of system security policies and standards
Working knowledge of TCP/IP networks

Education / Experience:
An education in the Telecommunications field and/or 2 years experience in a telecommunications infrastructure environment are highly desired for this position.
Experience in a Network Operations Center and/or the utility industry is highly desired.
Preference may be given to candidates that hold a current Cisco CCNA Routing and Switching , Cisco CCNA Wireless , and or Cisco CCIE Routing and Switching certification.
Work Location and Hours
The successful candidate will work remotely (i.e. telecommute, work virtually, work from home). Reporting to an office location is not required.
Although reporting to an office location is not required daily, there will be occasional travel required for face-to-face training, face-to-face meetings, etc.
Although a non-traditional work schedule/hours, employee will be required to attend monthly team call.
The Infrastructure Operations Center is located at 241 Ralph McGill Boulevard, Atlanta, Ga.
Must currently reside, or relocate at own expense, within AL, GA, MS or IL Southern Company electric or gas service territory.
The Infrastructure Operations Center is a 24x7x365 operation. Positions are scheduled in a fixed non-rotating schedule. Required to work some observed holidays. Occasional extended hours are required as critical events occur.
This position is specifically for the schedule of the ECHO team working 3 day x 12 hour weekend nights: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 7PM ET – 7AM ET on the following day.
