Position Summary – Director of Corporate Communication, Georgia Power
The Corporate Communication Director will develop strategy and execute world class internal and external communication programs and messaging to foster awareness and engagement while generating positive perception and protecting and enhancing the Georgia Power brand.
Reporting directly to the Vice President of Corporate Communication, this leader will have a successful track record of managing complex, high-profile company issues, brand management, providing support and counsel to executive leadership, and developing/executing internal and external communication strategies.
This leader must have a collaborative nature, a professional executive presence, and will be comfortable partnering with senior level executives across the organization.
Additionally, s/he will have the leadership skills and professional credibility to lead, mentor, develop and inspire a team of communications professionals.
The Director, Corporate Communication will be accountable for national, regional and Local media relations, internal communications to the company’s 8,000 employees, financial and strategic communications, crisis planning, legal and regulatory communication management, environmental positioning and executive support. Further, this individual will be a recognized leader who guides seasoned and emerging communications professionals as well as external agencies to support business priorities.
Develop communications strategies and lead the implementation of tactics for all corporate, financial and national external communications. Additionally, manage external vendors and functional processes to support the communications department.
Develop and execute brand and energy efficiency campaign strategies and manage agencies partnerships.
Direct the national, regional and local media relations activities of the company, including serving as company spokesperson, working with senior executives and business unit teams to review and approve proactive and reactive messaging. Also, develop overall positive and professional relations with the media and key influencers.
Serve as the communications lead in support of government affairs, public policy and legal initiatives. Work collaboratively with legislative and regulatory teams to develop and execute public facing positioning in support of Georgia Power’s initiatives.
Provide a leadership role in a cross-functional social media team for the enterprise and external communications social team. Also, drive social media programs, initiatives and messaging to positively position the company and its offerings in response to social interactions and proactively to communicate Georgia Power’s values, policies and products and services.
Direct external crisis communications both as needed and as part of the corporate planning process which includes, preparedness and incident management. Represent Georgia Power on the Incident Response Team.
Develop and execute environmental communication plans in close partnership with the company’s Environmental Affairs team.
10 years communications (corporate communication, sales/marketing/advertising and/or public relations) experience serving in successively more senior positions.
Experience in internal and external communications activities for a major corporation or public relations/ public affairs agency.
Proven ability to manage and lead through influence.
Strong interpersonal skills and executive presence. A dynamic professional style and the ability to project a confident leadership image externally and internally.
Skilled at crisis communications and management with a track record of success rooted in a hands-on approach.
Understanding of how corporate communication works with investor relations, legal and finance.
Excellent writing and verbal skills.
Highly collaborative style and an understanding of how to partner cross functionally.
Forward thinking individual with grasp of current/future communication trends.
Demonstrated experience working with the C-Suite.
Bachelor degree required, advanced degree a plus.
