Corporate Medical Services Manager

Description

The medical services group at Georgia Power is comprised of the Medical & Health Management and Health & Wellbeing functions. The Manager will provide strategic leadership for both functions and will be directly responsible for the day-to-day leadership of the Medical & Health Management team.

Medical & Health Management responsibilities include:

  • Case management of occupational and non-occupational injuries

  • Management of disability and return to work issues

  • Medical risk assessment and mitigation

  • Management of medical compliance issues (CDL drivers, OSHA, safety sensitive workers)

  • Medical support for corporate drug testing

  • Management of medical leave and FMLA issues

  • Compliance with reporting requirements

Health & Wellbeing Services responsibilities include:

  • Development and administration of the corporate wellness program

  • Communication of Health & Wellbeing information and services to employees

  • Management of on-site nursing staff, clinics and medical protocols

  • Evaluation of effectiveness of Health and Wellbeing initiatives

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategy

  • Continue to evolve and enhance the vision, support structure, processes, goals and measures for each function to ensure value and effectiveness

  • Monitor industry standards, trends and best practices through participation in state and industry sponsored organizations.

  • Drive continuous improvement and operational excellence to enhance administration, improve customer service, ensure compliance and deliver effective and efficient programs and initiatives.

  • Consult regularly with the legal department and other business partners regarding escalated issues to minimize exposure and liability.

  • Provide overall direction and oversight on the planning, design, development, implementation and communication of programs.

Compliance

  • Ensure policies, procedures, and controls are in place, maintained, and monitored to ensure compliance with all internal and external needs and requirements including but not limited to FMLA, CFRA, PDL, PFL, USERRA, ADA/ADAAA, ERISA and company-specific policies and guidelines.

  • Assist with leading legal and regulatory compliance programs for the enterprise working with state and federal regulations and laws including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), and various international regulatory requirements.

Administration

Medical & Health Management

  • Manage Leave of Absence functions including, administration, planning, and communications.

  • Direct a team of registered nurses, case managers, and administrative support.

  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with HR and benefits teams, managers, employees and corporate counsel as needed.

  • Assist with coaching and guiding leaders on leave policy and processes and engage with employees in the accommodation process.

  • Manage vendor relationships

Health & Wellbeing Services

  • Ensure effective partnerships with local wellness coordinators to drive health & wellness initiatives and programs at the Operating Company and business unit level.

  • Provide oversight for implementing and managing the company wellness and health improvement programs including an integrated communication strategy to drive behavior change throughout the Company.

  • Must possess a well-developed capability for strategic leadership and decision making and a track record of proven results.

  • Must have experience connecting strategic priorities and issues, analyzing trends and predictive outcomes, and effectively communicating value and business impact with all levels throughout the organization.

  • Clearly demonstrated and successful strategic leadership (e.g. ability to set a vision and motivate/influence others).

  • Strong and effective collaborative skills and experience and passionate about customer service.

  • Must have experience with:

  • Federal, State and Local regulations and laws related to leaves including FMLA, CFRA, PDL, PFL, USERRA, ADA/ADAAA, FLSA, and company specific leave programs such as Paid Parental Leave.

  • General medical practices related to injury and illness assessment.

  • State and OSHA Worker’s Compensation standards.

  • Technology for disability case management.

  • State and federal Human Resources Management laws, policies and practices.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience managing benefit, leave, or absence administration for large size company with union and non-union employees, workers’ compensation claims, clinical management, and OSHA regulations.

  • Expectation is that applicant will have an advanced professional degree matching the demands of the position; a Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred.
